The Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, says Brigadier-General Manoa Gadai overstepped the boundary of command when he publicly expressed concern about the drugs issue in Fiji.
A Facebook post on Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s page says the commander’s statement was delivered during an address at the End of Year Parade at the Force Training Ground.
He said while Brig-Gen Gadai had been verbally reprimanded, he acknowledged the emotion and compassion behind the remarks was from a place of genuine concern for his people.
He said the Brig-Gen had since apologised and acknowledged his mistake.
“Though he crossed the line that protects our hierarchical order of command, we both agreed that his message speaks to the reality of what is happening around us today,” the Commander said.
“It represents the truth. It represents every concerned father, mother, brother and sister. It represents every citizen of this country. It is the cry of the silent majority who wait upon and hope for a solution to a problem that is rapidly killing our nation. It represents our greatest fear — it is existential in nature as we see its effects on our families, our communities and our people.”
