As the festive season unfolds, one family has chosen to slow down and focus on what truly matters—spending quality time together.
With busy schedules often pulling everyone in different directions throughout the year, the holidays have become a precious opportunity to reconnect, reflect, and create lasting memories.
For Floreen Fozia who resides in Khalsa, she and her family use the festive season to come together and reconnect as are family.
“This year my children are here so we might have some pot lovo and catch up as a family during Christmas,” she said.
From shared meals prepared in the kitchen to evenings filled with laughter, music and storytelling, each moment is cherished.
Simple traditions such as decorating the home, attending church services and visiting relatives have taken on deeper meaning, reminding the family of the importance of unity and gratitude. Floreen advises the public to always be vigilant this festive season.
She said, “With the high number of domestic violence cases and criminal activities in the country people needed to be cautious.
“Always give a helping hand if needed, and supervise your children well.
“Don’t drink and drive and enjoy this festive season, Merry Christmas in advance to everyone and a Happy New Year’s.”
As the year comes to an end, the family reflects on their blessings and look ahead with hope.
Their celebration is a reminder that the true spirit of the festive season is not found in gifts or grand plans, but in togetherness, love, and the time spent with those closest to the heart.
The Fiji Police Force calls on people a few days away from Christmas, to be careful during the Christmas and end of year parties, social gatherings and of course while shopping, in their last-minute rush.
Police officers during routine operations, are raising awareness on the need to always be safety and security conscious. “This is when opportunists strike, as you’re busy getting everything sorted for your Christmas, and there are criminal elements who will take advantage of this.
“As a precaution, please keep in mind the following safety and security tips.
“Secure your homes and properties to avoid becoming a victim of burglary, as criminals target homes, they see to be vulnerable.
“Getting caught in the shopping rush, will definitely distract you from safety and security matters, and that is when pickpocketers often strike.
“Ensure your handbag or wallet is secure and keep gadgets such as mobile phones out of sight. Avoid carrying too much cash or leaving valuables in your car.
“Do not leave belongings unattended.
“Keep a close watch on your children at all times, so you don’t get separated.
“If you go out in the evening, leave some lights on. Plan your travel ahead of time, to avoid rushing/speeding. Leave the car at home if you are intending on drinking alcohol
“Moderation is key.
Speak up and step in, when it is obvious alcohol is going to cause trouble for all.
“Let’s work together in making it a safe and enjoyable Christmas for all.”
