WESTPAC Fiji has celebrated the achievements and aspirations of women and girls throughout the country by awarding its annual Women and Girls Education Grants.

The bank hosted certificate ceremonies in Suva and Lautoka to honour 30 recipients, acknowledging their commitment to education.

Westpac Fiji chief executive Shane Smith reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to empowering women and girls through education. He highlighted the diversity of this year’s applicants, noting strong participation from Fiji’s outer regions and both the western and central divisions.

“We are proud to support initiatives that create lasting impact for individuals, families, and communities,” Mr Smith said at the Suva ceremony. The grant program, now in its 15th year, aims to support the educational aspirations of Fijian women and girls.

Westpac Pacific managing director Emma Low described education as a powerful tool for change and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to gender equality and inclusion.

The program received over 1000 applications and awarded grants ranging from $500 to $2500 across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels.

This year, Westpac introduced new formats, allowing secondary students to submit video and performance-based entries alongside essays, fostering creativity and self-expression.

Among this year’s recipients were sisters Vivian and Taesha Chand from Ba, who applied after seeing the opportunity online.

The program received over 1000 applications and awarded grants ranging from $500 to $2500 across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, reflecting Westpac Fiji’s broader commitment to diversity, inclusion, and community development.
